Job Summary
The objective of the Nursery Nurse is to assist in the development and running of the Day Nursery, to provide outstanding day care for the children in a safe, clean and stimulating environment. The aim is to provide the best possible day care children at the nursery, which meets their physical, intellectual, emotional and social needs in a non-discriminatory manner.
Duties
• To provide support for other staff in the room
• To provide the best possible care and stimulation for the children of the nursery in a safe and happy environment.
• To assist in the supervising and training of NVQ Trainees.
• To liaise with parents and encourage their involvement in the aims of the nursery and in all the aspects of their children’s care.
• To assist in the supervising and training of students and trainees sent to the nursery from time to time.
• To provide and maintain records as necessary and appropriate. To complete observations and evaluations. To complete children’s profiles. To compose letters and memoranda as required by the functions of the post.
• To attend seminars, training courses and exhibitions to keep abreast of developments in all aspects of child care practice and policy. To ensure that modern, innovated and forward-looking practices are maintained; and personal career development.
• To attend monthly staff meetings.
• To assist in the planning of appropriate programmes of activity for the under 5’s relevant to their age and stage of development and to discuss other matters relevant to the staff and children.
• To assist in the daily domestic management of the nursery; including ensuring that the nursery is kept safe, secure and clean at all times.
• To work effectively as part of a team on a daily basis. In the absence of the Senior Nursery Nurse to be responsible for the playroom alongside other nursery nurses or equivalent. To use own initiative.
• Any other tasks within the framework and childcare of the post, which you are trained and capable of
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• Good all round knowledge of child care and practices and policies.
• Excellent communication skills with adults and children,
• Ability to work harmoniously as part of a team.
• Understanding and empathy with specific problems of working parents.
• Professional approach towards this post and all confidential matters.
• Caring approach to the individual needs of the children.
• Able to use own initiative
• Caring, patient and tolerant
• Ability to complete paperwork to a high standard
• Working knowledge of EYFS
• Experience of working in a day nursery setting or with groups of children aged 3 months to 5 years.
• Experience of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
